100 Years of Webster’s Community Pharmacy!

Timeline of Webster’s Community Pharmacy

1926 – Founding

Established by Frank Webster, Webster’s started as a full-service pharmacy; its offerings included pharmacy services, a soda fountain, cosmetics, photo supplies, and a liquor counter—serving as a community hub in Altadena.

Prohibition Era

During Prohibition, Webster’s became one of only two pharmacies in the San Gabriel Valley authorized to sell medicinal liquor—solidifying its unique role in the region.

1960s–1970s – Expansion

Under William Webster, the pharmacy expanded into a series of interconnected storefronts—including pharmacy, cosmetics, photography, and liquor—effectively acting as Altadena’s general store.

2010 – New Ownership

Purchased by Michael and Meredith Miller in December 2010, they rebranded it Webster’s Community Pharmacy, revitalizing the business with a focus on community, service, and expanded gifts, cards, and retro goods.

2011 – Community Revamp

The Millers introduced new services like vaccinations, delivery, medical supplies, automated dispensing, and expanded the gift shop with greeting cards, retro candy, toys, Potter’s creations, and fashion accessories.

2017–2018 – Recognition & Giving Back

The pharmacy launched the Beautiful Altadena 91001™ merchandise line, donating revenues to local nonprofits such as Altadena Heritage and the Historical Society.

In 2018, Webster’s was honored as California Small Business of the Year (Assembly District 41) and named Altadena Business of the Year.

2024 – Lease End and Relocation

As our long-term lease ended, we chose to move rather than sell or close. We relocated to a state-of-the-art facility at 2333 Lake Avenue, Suite D (Chase Plaza), just one block from the original site.

January 2025 – Life Amid the Eaton Fire

Webster’s new location was spared in the Eaton Fire, preserving crucial access to prescriptions and supplies for many residents.

February 17, 2025 – Reopening

The pharmacy reopened at its new location with full operations, including prescription filling, home delivery, and enhanced immunization services. Free coffee and donuts were offered to welcome the community back.

Early 2025 – Community Support & Merch Revamp

The Beautiful Altadena 91001™ merch line was relaunched to aid wildfire recovery. 100% of net proceeds support rebuilding local businesses and scholarships for students in the Pasadena Unified School District.

July 2025 – Post Office Open

Webster’s Village Post Office open inside the Community Pharmacy.
